Big music. Chamber scale. Twenty-seven years of making it together.
Riverside Chamber Symphony is a 30 piece community chamber orchestra bringing musicians together to rehearse, explore and perform great orchestral music. Now in our 27th season, Riverside was founded by conductor Philip Bayles and is a resident ensemble of the Richard E. Wildish Community Theater in Springfield, Oregon.
Our repertoire ranges from Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn and Schubert to works by other great composers, along with new music by regional composers.At the heart of Riverside is something simple: we love making music together. Our musicians come from different backgrounds, professions, generations and musical experiences. What brings us together is curiosity, commitment, camaraderie and the pleasure of sitting down together each week to see what we can create.
Founder and Conductor – Philip Bayles
Philip Bayles has a distinguished career background in both music and computer-related fields. His conducting has received regional and national acclaim. He was founding conductor of the Eugene Opera and the Eugene Concert Choir. He’s appeared with the Eugene Symphony, Eugene Ballet, Oregon Mozart Players and many additional ensembles. Currently, Philip is the Music Director at United Lutheran Church of Eugene, Oregon. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Friends of Buford Park and served on the Board of Directors of Oregon Public Networking. His adventurous approach to repertoire has helped shape Riverside from the beginning: a relatively small orchestra willing to take on ambitious music and have a wonderful time doing it.
Associate Conductor – Jared Fischer
A committed educator, he and six colleagues founded the annual workshop, Porterville Summer Strings, in Porterville, California, with the mission of making music education accessible to children disenfranchised by poverty and at risk of gang recruitment. During the summer of 2010, he taught music at House of Peace Orphanage in southern India. Jared has most recently worked in the collegiate setting as a graduate instructor in conducting at the University of Oregon, where he earned two master’s degrees, one in orchestral conducting, the other in choral conducting.
